Elephant in the Sky: A Novel by Heather A. Clark

Elephant in the Sky by Heather A. Clark
Nine year old Nate's mental illness and it's impact on his family is explained in this book. Based on a true story and told alternately by Nate and by his mother, Ashley, we see both Nate's thought processes and how his parents try to come to grips with the fact that there is something wrong with their beautiful child. Ashley is an overworked advertising executive and honestly, I found the first parts of the story by her about her work to be boring. The rest of the book, however, is intriguing and touching and eye opening. I think it is a good view of how a mentally ill person may be thinking and how their family can be affected. This book can be helpful to families who have one or more members affected by mental illness and to those who do not to help them to understand what it is like. I received this book free to review from Netgalley.
