Once again, Angie Thomas has written an excellent, thought provoking book. Sixteen year old Bri wants to be a rap star, not only because she loves rap music and her late father had been a rapper, but in order to help pay the bills. The story is an excellent read and brings up many important issues. Like her first book, The Hate U Give, I think that On The Come Up should be required reading (not banned) in all high schools for both the students and the teachers and administrators.
