Yellow Crocus by Laila Ibrahim
I really loved this book. Set in the antebellum south, Lisbeth is raised by her wet nurse, Mattie, who cares for her more than her standoffish mother and father. Although she is being groomed to be a fine southern woman who will be a mistress of a plantation one day herself, her close relationship with Mattie and some of the other slaves has opened Lisbeth's eyes to the true tragedy that slavery was. The story is compelling and well told and fantastic. I received this book free to review from Netgalley and I highly recommend it.
