In this steampunk adventure/romance, Penny has a clockwork heart that is slowly wearing out. It was installed by Dr. Warwick, who is now on trial for murder after experimenting with his augmentations on many unwilling patients resulting in their deaths. Now that he is on trial, he is desperate and suddenly Penny's parents are kidnapped and it is up to Penny, and her brother Nic and their friends and the handsome young military leader Marcus to find and rescue them and stop Warwick. There is adventure and romance, but the world building is lacking with not enough detail in some areas and too much focus on the description of clockwork elements in others.
