This is a short, odd and a bit disturbing book about a group of orphaned teenagers who have been put into a building that is full of only stairs and where they must please a machine in order for it to spit out food. They learn to dance and do whatever is necessary to make the machine give them food. It is an odd psychological experiment that they are part of. The book is interesting and makes you think.
